2017 Workshops – Samba

During 2017, Absolute Classics brought back Rhys Matthews, percussionist, who was a huge hit with the students during our last school sessions.  Rhys delivered Samba workshops within a number of schools across the region, including Annan Academy, St Joseph’s College, Eaglesfield Primary, St Columba’s and Kirkcudbright Academy. Again Rhys’ workshops were an amazing success, with feedback such as:

“Absolutely fantastic. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session. Rhys was a fantastic teacher who motivated and included all the young people.”
Mrs Anderson – Eaglesfield Primary

“This is such a valuable experience for pupils to be able to access professional musicians and after his last visit I was keen for pupils to experience the workshop. Arts are being cut, we are down to 45 minutes a week in S1/2 so it is important for us to raise the profile of music in any way we can.”
Mrs Somerville – St Joseph’s College

Absolute Classics Education & Outreach Programme – Percussion Workshops

The amazing percussionist – Rhys Matthews has delivered a number of our Education & Outreach workshops for young people throughout D&G and has become a bit of a legend. These workshops provide opportunities for even the younger pupils to take part in music-making. When asked if they were now excited about moving up to the Academy and take part in more music activities, there were resounding yells of 'YES!'This is a short video of one of the workshops from 2017 and we are working hard to be able to bring Rhys back to the region again this year.
