We have all recently had personal experiences of just how much the arts and creativity are essential parts of life that empower and connect us. Participation in music-making activities has been evidenced to empower young people by improving learning across all subjects and supporting the development of important creative thinking skills. Absolute Classics’ Education and Outreach Programme – “Absolute My Music” provides access to exactly this type of activity for as many young people living throughout Dumfries & Galloway as possible. For our new activities coming up in 2019 we are working to include more diverse groups of young people who do not have the opportunity to access any music-making activities otherwise.
We believe in the unique power of music to engage and enthuse young people so we have created some innovative and exciting projects that enable all young people to participate, and in different ways depending on their individual skills and experience of music education.
Our projects have been a huge success to date, where we have provided opportunities for over 1000 under 26’s each year through a range of activities including: 1-2-1 tuition for young musicians with internationally renowned artists, group workshops and performances in local primary and secondary schools, intensive professional residencies and composition projects that focus on writing music for interactive media such as video games, film and animations.
